Notice of Data Breach

Samish Indian Nation recently learned of a data breach involving some of its citizens caused by a third-party company, Cities Digital Inc. (CDI), that was contracted to support digitizing Samish’s enrollment records, a priority for the Tribe since the beginning of the pandemic. Samish’s internal systems were not involved or compromised during this incident.

Upon learning of the breach, Samish immediately began working with CDI on a formal investigation to uncover details about the breach’s possible impact. At this time, it is not clear how many Samish citizens have been affected or exactly what data has been jeopardized. CDI is providing free credit monitoring to all United States citizens affected by the breach.

We strongly encourage all U.S. citizens to sign up for free credit monitoring. Citizens can sign up by calling 1-855-551-1674 and providing this statement: “I am a citizen of the Samish Indian Nation residing in the United States. I was affected by the CDI data breach, and I need to be issued a member number in order to sign up for credit monitoring.”

Samish citizens living internationally with U.S. citizenship or dual citizenship may also be eligible for free credit monitoring. Please see the FAQ section below for details on how to request this service.

Samish is committed to the protection of its citizen’s personal information and can confirm that CDI no longer holds any data pertaining to Samish citizens. We will share more information as it becomes available.

Citizens can learn more through the support center by calling 1-855-551-1674 Monday through Friday from 6 a.m.–3:30 p.m. PST.
