On Sept 14, Kelly Bush from Equinox Research and Consulting, Inc. gave a lunchtime show and tell about basketry found during excavations for the new Clean Water Treatment Facility in Oak Harbor. Organic finds such as basketry aren’t common and this was a particularly lucky find, noticed during backhoe monitoring.
A small segment of the basketry was sent for testing and results indicate that it dates to 1,400 years old!

The remainder has been carefully preserved and will be curated at the Burke Museum in Seattle.
