Description

The Xws7ámeshqen Multimedia Specialist is responsible for producing media and graphic design materials for instruction, education, Xws7ámeshqen promotion, outreach, and/or special events in both physical and online accessible formats. The Multimedia Specialist will work closely with Xws7ámeshqen staff and consultants on multimedia and graphic design projects supporting programmatic goals for production and website content.

Principle Duties
  1. Learns and disseminates Xws7ámeshqen.
  2. Produces, edits, and maintains Samish owned audio, video, multimedia, and graphic designs of Xws7ámeshqen, cultural, and historical materials for the Xws7ámeshqen Program.
    • Audio content: create and edit audio recordings that capture and preserve language, cultural and historical materials.
    • Video content: develop and produce video materials that document cultural practices, historical events, and language use, ensuring high quality visual and audio standards.
    • Create multimedia presentations: design and assemble multimedia presentations that integrate audio, video, text, and graphics to effectively communicate language, cultural and historical information.
    • Graphic design: develop graphic design elements such as infographics, posters, coloring books, and digital illustrations that support language preservation efforts and enhance educational materials.
    • Conceptualizing, designing, and developing interactive language learning applications.
  3. Organizes and manages digital archives of produced materials, ensuring they are accessible and preserved for future generations.
  4. Under guidance from the Chelángen and Xws7ámeshqen Director, manages internal and external outreach efforts which includes the quarterly Samish newsletter.
  5. Researches projects for the Xws7ámeshqen Program as requested by the Chelángen and Xws7ámeshqen Director.
  6. Ensures the multimedia documentation of designated Xws7ámeshqen events, following established policies and protocols including obtaining necessary releases.
  7. Complies with copyright laws and practices and advises staff regarding copyright laws and practices as it applies to the duplication and presentation of media materials.
  8. Manages upkeep of the Xws7ámeshqen webpage and works with the Xws7ámeshqen Teacher and Program Coordinator to keep content updated.
  9. Works cooperatively with staff and tribal citizens, demonstrating strong client service skills and maintaining a clean and professional work environment.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  1. Associate’s degree in Arts and Communication, Marketing, Visual Arts, Multimedia or related field.
  2. Must possess strong written, verbal, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  3. Possession of or the ability to obtain the necessary documents (Samish enhanced Real ID, passport or Washington State enhanced driver’s license) to travel between USA & Canada without restrictions within 6-8 weeks of hire).
  4. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Some scheduling flexibility (nights and/or weekends) is required to accommodate the schedule of the Chelángen Department, events, attending meetings and gatherings, and other considerations regarding citizen and staff needs.
  5. Proficiency in software such as AdobeCreative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier Pro, InDesign), and other creative applications.
  6. Strong knowledge of social media platforms, trends, and best practices.
  7. Must be proficient in Microsoft 365 and collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI capabilities into existing systems and processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Enrolled Samish tribal citizen or descendant.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, marketing, or related field.
  3. Administrative work experience with a native language program, tribal government, or other relevant organization.

Working Conditions

Physical Demands: Long periods of sitting (60% of time); occasional bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting, carrying, and pushing (20% of time); and occasional standing and walking (20% of time). Occasionally lifts/carries up to 50 lbs. Must possess manual dexterity sufficient to use office equipment with frequent repetitive motion such as writing, high-speed typing, paperwork-handling, and phone use. Must possess the ability to view print on a computer screen and/or paper document; the ability to speak and hear exchanging information with end users by telephone

Mental/Visual Demands: Frequent mental and/or visual attention to task is required. Occasionally work requires heavy concentration. Frequent interruptions. Tasks involve eye-hand coordination.

Working Environment: Work environment is mainly indoors with heat and some air conditioning. Must sit or stand at desk for the majority of shift. Unavoidable hazards/risks: Work involves exposure to electronic equipment, cabling, and wires; requires minimal risks which require safety precautions (using some cleaning chemicals for light cleaning). Protective clothing or equipment may be required (goggles, gloves, masks, boots, etc.).
